ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has reassured citizens that robust public health measures are actively containing the imported Ebola virus case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prevent community transmission.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, gave the assurance on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following a high-level briefing with Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Prof. Pate urged the public to avoid panic, refrain from spreading unverified rumors, and rely exclusively on official updates from accredited health agencies.
He confirmed that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has fully activated its 24/7 Incident Management System (IMS), with contact-tracing teams actively monitoring individuals linked to the isolated single patient.
The minister revealed that Nigerian public health officials are working in direct collaboration with authorities in Uganda—where the patient transited—to share epidemiological data.
Citing Nigeria’s successful containment of the 2014 Ebola outbreak, Prof. Pate expressed full confidence in the country’s institutional readiness and committed to providing transparent daily operational updates.
