Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to sign the death warrants of four persons recently sentenced to death by the state’s Special Criminal Court for kidnapping, provided they do not exercise their right to appeal within 30 days.
Speaking on Friday during a religious service in Benin City, the governor emphasized that his administration remains unshakeable in its mandate to purge Edo State of violent crimes, adding that statutory legal processes will be fully enforced without delay once judicial timelines elapse.
The four convicts were sentenced to death by hanging following their conviction for high-profile abductions within the state.
Governor Okpebholo recalled that combating security challenges was his foremost priority upon assuming office, reiterating that while the law guarantees a 30-day appeal window for the condemned, he will not hesitate to fulfill his constitutional duty by signing their execution warrants if no higher court overturns the judgment.
