Opposition presidential contender Peter Obi has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down at the end of his current term, contending that the President lacks the physical energy and capacity required to address Nigeria’s worsening national challenges.
Speaking in Abuja during the official inauguration of the campaign council for his political platform, Obi asserted that the country requires an active, present, and hands-on leader capable of steering the nation out of its current socio-economic distress.
”Above all, President Tinubu does not have the energy and resolve required to lead Nigeria today, and he must go home,” Obi declared to party delegates. “Nigeria cannot be governed with the energy he has today. Nigeria needs a president who will be available and present.”
The former Anambra State governor criticized the ruling administration’s handling of core development metrics, arguing that poverty rates, food insecurity, public safety, and economic stability have worsened continuously under the current government.
Obi also faulted the administration for shifting accountability onto political rivals, stressing that true governance focuses on solving national problems rather than trading blame over past allocations. He pledged that an opposition-led government would prioritize eradicating systemic corruption and stabilizing internal security.
Warning against potential electoral manipulation ahead of the upcoming general elections, the opposition leader demanded a transparent and credible voting process, cautioning that arbitrary harassment of political supporters would not be tolerated.
The campaign council inauguration was attended by prominent opposition figures, including vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and party leader Seriake Dickson, alongside key national executive committee members.
