ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Umrah (lesser Hajj) pilgrimage in the holy city of Makkah.
The President’s aircraft landed at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday night, where he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, alongside Saudi Arabia’s Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit provides the Nigerian leader an opportunity for spiritual devotion and reflection. During his stay in Makkah, President Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah while offering prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and economic progress.
The President, who departed Abuja on Thursday afternoon following a brief official farewell led by senior government officials and state governors, is expected to complete the spiritual exercise and return to Nigeria next week.
