LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nollywood actress Doris Ogala dropped to her knees in open court on Friday, October 30, 2026, tendering an unreserved apology to Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos for her vocal disruption during previous proceedings.
Ogala, who was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Wednesday, made the dramatic gesture during the hearing of her bail application in the three-count cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and attempted extortion charge brought against her by the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The charges stem from petitions filed on behalf of Pastor Chris Okafor, General Overseer of Grace Nation Bible Ministry, alleging that Ogala published defamatory material, private photos, and threatening communications online.
Courtroom Drama and Judicial Reprimand
During the session, Ogala became emotionally overwhelmed, fell to her knees before the dock, and pleaded for the court’s mercy and forgiveness, assuring the judge that she would maintain proper courtroom decorum moving forward.
”I am deeply sorry for my actions and for disrupting the peace of this honorable court,” Ogala pleaded while kneeling before the bench. “I beg for the court’s forgiveness and mercy.”
Justice Aluko cautioned the defendant on maintaining respect for judicial proceedings, stressing that bail considerations and criminal trials are governed strictly by law and procedural evidence rather than emotional displays in open court.
Bail Ruling Reserved
Moving the bail application, defense counsel urged the court to grant the actress bail on liberal terms, submitting that she would strictly comply with all attendance conditions.
The prosecution team highlighted the severity of the alleged cybercrime offenses, asking the court to ensure conditions that guarantee the integrity of the trial.
Justice Aluko subsequently reserved ruling on the bail application and ordered that Ogala be remanded back to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the formal delivery of the court’s decision.
