The Edo State Police Command has released Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemen, 90, the father of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Edo South, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemen, following an invitation over a petition alleging conspiracy, forcible entry, gun running, cultism, and promoting communal crises.
The clarification came after initial reports suggested the nonagenarian had been abducted when he was taken from his home around 4:00 AM on Tuesday.
Command spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the invitation stemmed from a petition submitted on August 25, 2026.
She stated that Pa Iduoriyekemen provided useful statements at the station and was permitted to return home while detectives continue their probe, adding that two other suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case.
Reacting to the incident, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, welcomed the elder’s release but condemned the manner of his arrest. In a statement titled “Still on Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemwen,” Afegbua criticized taking a fragile 90-year-old into custody during an early-morning raid.
He described the execution as unacceptable and cautioned against politicizing local disputes to stir tension or discredit the government.
