A helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed a planned precautionary landing in the Utur Tse-Igboji community of Makurdi, Benue State, shortly after completing an air support operation targeting kidnapping networks in the region.
The aircraft was returning from a combat mission conducted near the boundary between Benue and Enugu states, particularly around the Ogbadigbo Local Government Area. The operation focused on offering close air support to ground troops as they cleared criminal hideouts and disrupted active kidnapping syndicates operating along the state borders.
Prioritizing Safety and Standard Operating Procedures
Official statements from the NAF clarified that the pilot made a deliberate decision to land in a farm area roughly 10 nautical miles short of the primary airfield. Military authorities emphasized that the maneuver was taken strictly in adherence to established safety protocols following demanding operational missions.
According to NAF Spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the pilot exercised professional judgment to protect both the aircrew and the platform before continuing the return flight.
”The pilot opted for a precautionary landing in strict adherence to standard safety procedures following combat air support operations,” Ejodame stated, noting that the measure ensured the safety of the crew and the aircraft’s physical integrity.
Aircraft Secured and Returned to BaseFollowing the landing, military personnel secured the immediate area around Utur Tse-Igboji. Ground support units subsequently cleared the helicopter, enabling it to complete its flight safely back to base without further incident. No injuries to crew members or damages to civilian property were reported.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its resolve to sustain joint security efforts across vulnerable corridors, promising continuous aerial monitoring and tactical support to ground troops in ongoing anti-banditry and anti-kidnapping campaigns across the country.
