Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has threatened to order the arrest of a contractor handling a major section of the Benin-Abraka Road project for allegedly abandoning the site after receiving payment.
The Governor made the declaration while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas during an official tour. Okpebholo alleged that the defaulting contractor, whom he described as a close associate of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, left the project incomplete despite collecting funds from the immediate past administration.
According to an official statement released by the Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, Governor Okpebholo explained that his administration is fully determined to reconstruct the critical regional corridor but remains legally constrained by prior contractual execution traps left behind.
He further revealed that the broader road network contract was originally split between two distinct companies.
While one section is currently progressing smoothly and sitting at roughly 75 percent completion, the second section assigned to the former governor’s ally remains completely deserted.
