President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly praised his son, Seyi Tinubu, and the youth-led group City Boy, commending their grassroots mobilization and youth engagement without seeking public office or titles.
Speaking during a recent public gathering, the President clarified political speculations surrounding his son’s recent nationwide engagements, addressing the question of what Seyi is running for and affirming his full support for youth participation in national development.
Addressing concerns raised by stakeholders over the last few weeks regarding Seyi’s political ambitions, President Tinubu explained that his son is following in his footsteps by engaging directly with young people across the country. The President highlighted the group’s humble approach, noting that Seyi and his colleagues organized the movement without demanding official titles or appointments from the government.
”Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father. He is running after his father. You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you,” President Tinubu stated.
Commending their grassroots strategy, the President added, “You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office. You went to the young people, your age mates, your group. You listened to them and organised them. I am proud of all of you.”
Challenging the youth group to maintain their momentum and set a lasting precedent for future generations, he concluded, “But I will tell you what every father tells a son: you have only started. Do more, not less. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow.”
The City Boy movement has been active in organizing political and social engagements among Nigerian youth.
