Honourable Natasha Osawaru, the Edo State House of Assembly Minority Leader representing Egor Constituency, created a stir on the assembly floor on Wednesday after dropping the surname of music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and requesting to be addressed solely by her maiden name.
Addressing her legislative colleagues during plenary in Benin City, the lawmaker formally instructed the Assembly clerk and members of the press to adjust official records and address tags to reflect her original family identity.
The development follows months of public speculation surrounding her marital status. The lawmaker, who was elevated to Minority Leader under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier this year, affirmed that her primary focus remains her legislative duties and grassroots representation.
”I am Hon. Natasha Osawaru, representing the resilient people of Egor Constituency. I request that all official communications, proceedings, and public records reflect my official name,” she stated during her address.
Constituency observers and political analysts note that the step signals a formal detachment from recent marital controversies as Hon. Osawaru consolidates her position as a major opposition voice in the Edo State legislature.
