One person has been killed and three others critically injured following an attack by suspected political thugs on the motorcade of Mr. Rollins Offia-Nwali, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ezza South Constituency in Ebonyi State.
The violent assault occurred on Thursday afternoon while the candidate and his entourage were returning from a community engagement in Amazekewe. Armed assailants lying in wait along the road opened fire on the approaching convoy, subsequently setting the candidate’s Toyota Hilux utility vehicle ablaze.
The Ebonyi State Police Command and local emergency teams confirmed that one victim died from bullet wounds, while three other casualties were rushed to a regional facility where they are receiving emergency medical attention.
Reacting to the incident, Offia-Nwali expressed deep condolences to the families of those affected, firmly condemning political violence and urging youth across the state not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of destruction by ambitious politicians, stressing that no political office is worth the loss of human life.
