Troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear), operating under the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued a 44-year-old victim during a raid on a criminal hideout in Edo State.
The successful anti-kidnapping operation was conducted on Sunday, October 11, inside the dense thickets of Sasaro Forest, located within Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
Disclosing the development in an official statement released in Benin City on Monday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 4 Brigade, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, confirmed that the intervention followed actionable intelligence detailing illegal activities and the hideout of abductors in the area.
According to military authorities, the troops—acting in synergy with local vigilantes and forest guards—stormed the enclave where they encountered the armed syndicate. A gun duel ensued as the criminals opened fire on sighting the advancing security forces, who responded with superior firepower to neutralize three members of the gang on the spot.
The abductee was safely rescued without harm, while three locally crafted firearms and nine live cartridges were recovered from the scene.
Reaffirming the military’s posture, the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, commended the operational personnel and partner security agencies for their bravery and seamless execution.
He assured residents that clearance operations will be sustained across forest corridors to deny non-state actors safe havens throughout Edo State.
