ADC Rejects FG’s 90-Day Economic Plan, Labels Initiative ‘Election Bait’ Ahead of Polls

ABUJA, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has called on Nigerians to reject President Bola Tinubu’s newly announced 90-day cost-of-living economic action plan, describing the intervention as a deceptive political tactic designed to secure votes ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Addressing a world press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the Director of Strategic Communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu, questioned the timing and sincerity of the Federal Government’s relief package, pointing out that the plan’s 90-day duration extends beyond Election Day.

Shaibu emphasized that with the presidential election less than three months away, asking citizens to endure economic hardship for three and a half years only to roll out temporary measures right before voting constitutes political exploitation.

“The presidential election is 86 days away, yet President Bola Tinubu’s National Economic Council has announced a cost-of-living plan that will run for 90 days,” Shaibu stated. “The arithmetic is plain: the plan ends after Nigerians have voted. After three and a half years of hardship, this government is asking families to carry another promise into the polling booth and wait for relief until the votes are counted. This is election bait.”

The opposition campaign council urged the Federal Government to prioritize structural economic policies over transient promises, demanding full disclosure regarding the administration’s proposed household support programs, including clear eligibility criteria, implementation frameworks, and accountability measures.

The party maintained that the electorate should evaluate the current administration strictly on its economic record—specifically the purchasing power of ordinary households—rather than short-term relief promises announced on the eve of national elections.
