ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has placed 15 states on high alert and directed tertiary health institutions nationwide to immediately prepare isolation beds following heightened surveillance protocols for Ebola Virus Disease.
The emergency directive was issued by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, working in coordination with the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr. Jide Idris.
The public health warning follows genomic confirmation of an imported index case traced to the Federal Capital Territory, prompting health authorities to intensify border surveillance and mandate states to finalize their epidemic response plans.
The designated states have been instructed to activate rapid response units, conduct contact tracing, and ensure medical personnel are supplied with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Health officials clarified that the nationwide alert is a proactive containment strategy to safeguard public safety and prevent community transmission.
”We have urged 15 strategic states to immediately complete their outbreak response plans and ensure isolation facilities are operational. Surveillance networks are active, and containment measures are being rigorously enforced,” Dr. Idris confirmed.
