Mohbad’s Family Demands Postponement of Scheduled DNA Test Over Transparency Concerns

The family of late Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has officially called for an immediate postponement of the DNA test scheduled to determine the paternity of his son, Liam.

The examination, which was slated to take place on Saturday at the Mainland General Hospital/IDH in Yaba, Lagos, faces a fresh hurdle after the Aloba family raised critical concerns regarding the procedures for sample collection, transportation, and laboratory accreditation.

In an official statement issued by the family head, Samuel Aloba, the family demanded that the exercise be put on hold until all outstanding procedural questions are answered and further legal directions are obtained from the court.

Specifically, the family requested full disclosure regarding the identity, physical address, and official accreditation details of the United States laboratory designated to analyze the biological samples. They also sought explicit clarification on whether the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre would directly conduct the testing or merely collect samples for overseas shipment.

While clarifying that they were not alleging any past manipulation, the family emphasized that their stance was necessary to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the results.

”Our objective is not to predetermine the outcome of the examination but to ensure that the eventual result is based on a credible, transparent, and properly documented process,” the family stated. “The public interest in establishing the truth should not be undermined by avoidable uncertainty or a lack of safeguards.”

The paternity dispute, involving the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, and widow, Omowunmi Aloba, has remained a subject of intense legal and public interest since Mohbad’s tragic passing on September 12, 2023.
