The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has distanced itself from an unverified list circulating online that alleges several consumer items on the market are counterfeit or unsafe.
In an official public notice issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye instructed citizens to ignore the widespread social media document, emphasizing that it did not originate from the regulatory body and holds no official standing.
”The Agency clarifies that the list did not emanate from NAFDAC and should not be regarded as an official regulatory alert, recall notice or safety communication,” Adeyeye stated.
The regulator highlighted that photos or names appearing in unofficial web posts do not serve as proof of contamination or illegality. According to the agency, formal safety warnings and product revocations are issued only after thorough laboratory testing, field investigations, and rigorous scientific evaluation.
When substandard or dangerous items are confirmed through these established protocols, the agency handles enforcement directly by seizing and disposing of the affected inventory.
Consumers and healthcare practitioners were advised to rely solely on authenticated NAFDAC platforms for legitimate updates regarding product safety, recalls, and enforcement operations.
Members of the public seeking verification or wishing to submit product safety complaints can reach out through the agency’s dedicated helplines (0700-1-623322 and 0800-1-623322) or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
