KANO — Hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters staged a peaceful protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) state headquarters in Kano over the alleged omission of National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the official candidate list.
The demonstration, led by deputy governorship candidate Mustapha Kwankwaso, saw protesters march to the electoral body’s office on Friday to submit a formal petition demanding Gwarzo’s immediate reinstatement.
Movement spokesperson Dr. Habib Mohammed alleged that unauthorized letters containing suspected forged signatures were submitted to national headquarters, claiming an internal electoral staff member colluded with unauthorized actors to facilitate improper candidate substitutions.
Addressing the delegation, Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner Abdu Zango confirmed receipt of the petition and noted that the commission has documented the reasons surrounding the omission. Zango assured the group that their grievances would be escalated to national headquarters for immediate review, pointing out that an official appeal window remains open through October 24.
The peaceful march underscores heightened political tensions as party supporters demand transparency and institutional accountability ahead of the upcoming electoral window.
