ABUJA — The opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officialized the postponement of the inauguration and unveiling of its National Campaign Council (NCC), shifting the key electoral event from Tuesday, October 20, to Monday, October 26, 2026.
The shift was disclosed in an official press statement issued on Monday, October 19, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., in Abuja.
Party leadership attributed the schedule adjustment directly to international commitments involving its presidential flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi, who is currently attending a critical engagement abroad.
Explaining the rationale behind the date modification, Director noted that the presence of the presidential candidate remains crucial to the ceremonial and political launch of the party’s national campaign apparatus.
“The shift is occasioned by the very tight schedule of our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, who has a very important engagement overseas,” Director stated.
The NDC spokesperson extended an apology on behalf of the party executives to party leaders, stakeholders, invitees, and supporters for any inconvenience caused by the date alteration.
He further urged party faithful across the country to remain steadfast and locked into the primary objective of securing victories for Obi, his running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and all other NDC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
“The NDC Leadership has announced a new date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC) earlier slated for Tuesday, 20th October, 2026. The event will now be held on Monday, 26th October, 2026,” the official statement confirmed.
Prior to the postponement, the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, had indicated that the exercise would align with a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting aimed at ratifying key election strategies, handing over Certificates of Return to candidates, and strengthening national solidarity across all geopolitical zones.
Despite the temporary delay, the party maintains that all preparatory frameworks for the campaign rollout remain intact, dismissing claims of internal disarray as unfounded political opposition rhetoric.
