The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Jarrett Tenebe, has criticized former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, describing his recent public remarks as a sign of “mental derangement.”
The friction follows statements made by Amaechi during an ADC town hall meeting in Benin City on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Addressing attendees, the former Minister of Transportation urged the Edo electorate to reject President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, remarking that only “mad” voters or dishonest individuals would support the current administration.
Reacting in an official statement issued in Benin City, Tenebe strongly condemned Amaechi’s choice of words, characterizing them as deeply offensive to the people of Edo State and a dangerous escalation in political rhetoric.
Key Highlights of Tenebe’s Statement:Condemnation of Verbal Attacks: Tenebe asserted that it is unacceptable for any visiting politician to openly insult a local electorate simply because of their political affiliations or choice of candidates.
Appeal to Security Agencies: The Edo APC chairman urged law enforcement agencies to caution Amaechi against making further provocative remarks that could trigger inter-party clashes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Call for Democratic Restraint: Emphasizing that democracy depends on citizens’ freedom to choose their leaders without intimidation or ridicule, Tenebe noted that political differences should be resolved through policy debates rather than insults.
Dismissal of Opposition: Tenebe argued that Amaechi’s outburst reflected an inability to handle opposing views, adding that the ADC holds no significant political sway in Edo State.
The verbal exchange highlights growing political tensions in Edo State as both the ruling APC and opposition coalitions begin mobilizing support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
