Edo ADC Senatorial Candidate, Imasuangbon Narrowly Escape Death as Thugs Open Fire on Convoy in Igueben

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State has confirmed an attack by suspected political thugs on its candidates and campaign team in Igueben Local Government Area on Tuesday.

In an exclusive telephone interview with South South Echoes, the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Chris Ojeikere, confirmed the incident, revealing that the party’s Edo Central Senatorial candidate, Hon. Herberta Okonofua, and former governorship aspirant, Kenneth Imasuangbon, narrowly escaped death during the assault.

According to Ojeikere, the attack occurred at the premises of the Enogie of Igueben during campaign engagements in the area. A party supporter, identified as Jerry Oliha from ADC Ward 6, sustained critical gunshot wounds during the violent encounter.

”The young man was rushed to the Irrua Specialist Hospital, where doctors are currently battling to save his life,” Ojeikere told South South Echoes.

He added that Tuesday’s incident marked the third attack on the ADC entourage within the local government area, following earlier shootings targeted at the team in Wards 4 and 5.

The ADC spokesperson described the attack as part of a wider pattern of violence directed at opposition political members and facilities across the state, citing similar occurrences in Etsako East, Owan West, and Owan East local government areas.

He stated that the party is preparing a comprehensive report on the situation and noted that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igueben had been formally notified.
