ABUJA, NIGERIA — Former Sokoto State Governor and serving Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has categorically debunked social media reports alleging that he is preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an official statement released on Monday, October 19, 2026, by his media office, the lawmaker described the defection claims as “false, baseless, and designed to mislead the public.”
The statement, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, stressed that Senator Tambuwal has no intention of joining the APC and remains fully dedicated to his current political platform.
Media Office Clarifies Viral Photos and Videos
Addressing recent photographs and video clips circulating across online platforms that sparked the rumors, the media office explained that political courtesy should not be mistaken for party realignment.
”The photographs and video clips being circulated do not establish any defection plan,” the statement read. “Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance.”
The media team emphasized that Senator Tambuwal is a respected statesman with longstanding friendships spanning across various political divides, built over decades of public service.
Focus Shifted to 2027 and Governance Challenges
Reaffirming his political stance, the media office stated that Senator Tambuwal’s primary objective remains building broad political cooperation and mobilizing citizens under the ADC banner ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement urged public commentators and media outlets to verify reports through official channels before publication, warning against presenting baseless political speculation as factual news.
