Officers from the Cross River State Police Command have apprehended a 29-year-old man, Abashi John, following the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old child in Edor Community, within the Ikom Local Government Area.
Reports say the child’s father, Raphael Eyo, reported the matter to law enforcement after his son went missing on October 5. Eyo stated that the suspect took the minor under the guise of helping him return home safely, but failed to do so.
According to security officials, family members and residents subsequently visited the suspect’s residence the following day, where the missing child was discovered inside a room bearing physical head injuries. Operatives promptly rescued the child and transferred the suspect from the local outpost to the Ikom Division for formal detention and questioning.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed that a full investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities urged members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands while promising to provide regular updates as findings develop.
