President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a high-level security meeting at the State House in Abuja with the Minister of Defence, service chiefs, and heads of intelligence agencies, directing them to guarantee a safe, neutral, and violence-free environment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The strategic meeting evaluated the country’s security landscape, with a strong focus on political stability, voter safety, and neutral intelligence operations as the nation approaches another critical election cycle.
Briefing State House correspondents following the closed-door session, Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa revealed that the President issued explicit instructions to security heads to ensure no political entity or candidate is permitted to intimidate voters or disrupt electoral activities in any region.
The Defence Minister stated that President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to deepening democratic practice by mandating security agencies to maintain total neutrality and provide equal protection for all political actors and citizens.
“Mr. President made it clear during our deliberations that he is desirous of a free, fair, and credible poll in 2027. He charged all security arms to do everything necessary within the law to safeguard the nation so that citizens in every state can exercise their franchise without fear or coercion,” the minister stated.
Addressing broader regional security concerns, Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede , assured the public that the armed forces and allied agencies remain resolute in crushing criminal elements, banditry, and economic sabotage across the Niger Delta and northern corridors.
General Oluyede added that the federal administration is set to commission newly acquired military assets, including ten advanced aircraft and operational helicopters, to enhance aerial surveillance and tactical response capacities.
He urged Nigerians to support security institutions with timely intelligence, noting that voter participation and peaceful governance depend on collective civic responsibility.
