The Court of Appeal in Abuja has rejected a bid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to challenge a judgment at the Supreme Court regarding the unfreezing of 124 bank accounts linked to Abuja businesswoman Aisha Achimugu and her companies.
In a decision delivered by the appellate panel, the court held that the anti-graft agency’s application seeking leave to proceed to the apex court lacked merit, thereby upholding its earlier judgment delivered on July 22.
The legal dispute originated from an interim ex-parte order granted in April 2025 by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, which temporarily froze transactions across 124 bank accounts associated with Achimugu.
Reaffirming its stance, the Court of Appeal ruled that keeping financial assets locked under temporary restriction orders for over 15 months without formal prosecution constituted a severe abuse of court process, effectively freeing the accounts for normal banking operations.
