ABUJA — The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) coalition / opposition alliance, Peter Obi, has declared that under his administration, the federal government will no longer tolerate the unchecked abduction of citizens, pledging to personally track criminals into forest hideouts.
Obi made the commitment during a national political town hall meeting while addressing growing concerns over rural insecurity, mass abductions, and economic hardship across the country.
Addressing delegates and stakeholders, the former Anambra State governor stated that his leadership approach to national defense would require direct action and relentless pursuit of criminal elements.
He noted that a Commander-in-Chief must demonstrate physical accountability and leadership by ensuring security forces confront bandantry head-on.
”We will not sit in office while citizens are carried away by criminals,” Obi stated. “If bandits kidnap our people and take them into the bush, we will pursue them into that same bush. Under our administration, there will be no safe haven for criminals anywhere in Nigeria.”
He criticized the current administration’s handling of security challenges, pointing out that widespread hunger, youth unemployment, and unchecked banditry stem from leadership failure and systemic corruption.
Obi further outlined immediate priorities for his potential administration, promising to declare states of emergency on corruption, education, and power generation while leveraging the expertise of his political allies—including former Defence Minister Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso—to restructure Nigeria’s security architecture.
