‘We Do Not Work With Agents’: German Embassy Issues Fraud Alert To Nigerian Visa Applicants

The German Missions in Abuja and Lagos have issued a stern warning to visa applicants against patronizing third-party intermediaries claiming to guarantee visa approvals, offer fake job opportunities, or secure appointment slots.

In a series of public advisories published on its official X account (@GERinNigeria) on Wednesday, the embassy declared that it does not collaborate with any visa agents. It emphasized that all official information regarding requirements and procedures remains freely available on its website.

The warning follows widespread reports of applicants losing millions of naira to fraudulent agents who falsely promise guaranteed employment, influence over embassy officials, and expedited interview slots.

“We do not work with any ‘Visa Agents’! All information is freely available on our website,” the embassy stated in its official advisory.

Diplomatic officials stressed that visa decisions rest strictly with German authorities based on an applicant’s official documents and eligibility, rather than payments to middlemen.

The mission further reminded the public that booking visa appointment slots through official channels is entirely free. It cautioned applicants against paying unauthorized individuals to secure bookings or sending application documents via email in attempts to bypass standard booking procedures.

To guard against ongoing visa fraud schemes, the embassy advised Nigerians to rely exclusively on its verified portals—nigeria.diplo.de and digital.diplo.de/visa—or contact the mission directly for official guidance.
