Chieftaincy Shift: Governor Okpebholo Sacks Ikpeshi Regent After 11 Months, Restores Odamah III to Throne

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has terminated the appointment of Mr. Nicholas Odamah as the Regent of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, restoring Zaiki Luckman Momodu Odamah III as the traditional ruler.

The official decision was communicated through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor, effectively reversing an executive mandate issued 11 months prior on November 13, 2025.

According to government authorities, the administrative reversal followed extensive appeals from indigenes and key community stakeholders in Akoko-Edo, alongside verification that the leadership tussle remains subject to ongoing litigation before a competent court of law.

The state administration emphasized its dedication to the rule of law and the protection of traditional heritage, urging all factions to maintain peace and allow judicial proceedings to take their natural course.
