The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an aggressive enforcement campaign targeting motorists driving with hidden, altered, or missing license plates.
FCT Police Commissioner, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, issued the directive on Sunday following a sharp rise in vehicles operating with irregular identification. The crackdown explicitly targets drivers using obscured, faded, or completely blank registration tags, as well as those utilizing unauthorized tinted windows or fraudulent diplomatic plates.
Law enforcement observed that criminal networks frequently utilize these altered vehicles—particularly Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs)—to execute offenses and evade tracking or detection by security teams.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized that the unique security profile of Abuja makes these unidentifiable vehicles a significant threat to public safety.
According to SP Adeh, the CP directed that motorists caught flouting the vehicle registration laws will face instant arrest and prosecution.
To counter this vulnerability, all divisional officers have been ordered to intercept violators immediately.
