WARRI, Nigeria — Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) under the Delta State Police Command have arrested six suspected cultists and recovered a firearm alongside illicit drugs in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The arrest was confirmed on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued to journalists in Warri.
According to Edafe, the operation was executed following credible intelligence led by operatives who raided a hotel in Abraka community suspected of being used as a hideout for drug dealing and criminal gang activities.
During the surprise raid, six suspects were apprehended, while a bag containing one firearm and quantities of suspected Indian hemp was recovered from the scene. Some accomplices fled upon sighting law enforcement personnel.
SP Edafe noted that the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has reiterated the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations to rid communities of cultism and violent crimes.
”During the operation, six suspected cultists were arrested, while a bag containing a firearm and substances suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered,” SP Edafe stated. “Investigation is on course to establish the ownership and source of the recovered firearm, and efforts are on top gear to track down fleeing accomplices.”
