Former Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, has strongly condemned the recent violent attack on popular Edo comedian and entertainer Osagie Daniel Idedia, widely known as MC Porkupyne.
In a press statement released on Monday, Obaseki described the assault as a reprehensible act of violence that must not go unpunished. He called on state security institutions and law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate, thorough, and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
”Electoral violence is an ill wind that blows no one any good,” Obaseki stated. “No political ambition, disagreement or electoral contest is worth the injury, suffering or loss of life of any citizen. Violence and intimidation have no place in a democracy, and we must collectively resist every attempt to undermine the safety of our people and the integrity of our democratic process.”
The former governor expressed concern over the normalization of political intimidation, warning that failure to hold offenders accountable could embolden criminality and erode public trust in state institutions. He urged political actors, supporters, and key stakeholders across Edo State to maintain peace and resolve differences through established legal mechanisms.
Standing in solidarity with the victim, Obaseki offered prayers for MC Porkupyne’s quick recovery and committed to assisting with the financial cost of his medical care to alleviate the burden on the entertainer’s family.
”Edo State must not descend into a climate of fear and electoral violence,” he added. “We must insist on accountability, demand justice for victims and ensure that every citizen can exercise their democratic rights without the threat of assault or intimidation.”
The attack on MC Porkupyne, which occurred in Benin City while he was returning from an event, is currently under active investigation by the Edo State Police Command. Police Commissioner CP Patrick Daaor has assured the public that officers are tracking down those responsible.
