Operatives of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, in close collaboration with Nigerian law enforcement authorities, have arrested nine suspected cybercriminals and confiscated fifty-three high-end electronic devices in a joint sweep executed across targeted locations in Nigeria.
The intelligence-led exercise, officially designated as Operation Blackout, targeted sophisticated transnational syndicates responsible for running global digital scams, including cryptocurrency fraud schemes, corporate impersonation rackets, and online extortion enterprises.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel confirmed the operational outcome through an official statement released on Sunday, disclosing that law enforcement personnel also tracked down approximately eleven million dollars in potentially freezable assets linked to the syndicate’s cross-border transactions.
The Nigerian operation formed part of a broader multinational law enforcement push coordinated alongside the United States Department of Justice, which swept through West Africa and led to twenty-eight overall detentions, alongside the disruption and deletion of more than three point seven million fraudulent digital accounts worldwide.
Law enforcement authorities emphasized that all nine individuals arrested within Nigerian borders remain criminal suspects under the law, with formal extradition protocols and judicial proceedings expected to follow as forensic analysis of the seized digital hardware continues.
