KADUNA, Nigeria — The apex pastoralist organization, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has formally thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election project ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The public declaration was made during a joint conference of cattle rearers, livestock merchants, and Fulani cultural groups convened over the weekend in Kaduna State.
Explaining the coalition’s decision, MACBAN National President Baba Othman Ngelzarma highlighted the creation of the dedicated Federal Ministry of Livestock Development as a landmark administrative milestone. He noted that the step effectively ended decades of systemic exclusion experienced by the pastoral economy.
Ngelzarma stated that the specialized ministry offers a clear structure for resolving farmer-herder frictions, securing livestock investments, and integrating pastoralist communities into mainstream economic planning. On that basis, he called on sector stakeholders across the country to unite behind the President’s continuation in office.
Responding to the declaration, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commended the leadership of the association, assuring them that the federal government remains focused on upgrading pastoral infrastructure, veterinary healthcare, and processing hubs.
To seal the political backing, executive members of the union presented a symbolic traditional Fulani cap to the Minister for official delivery to the President.
