Former Governor of Bayelsa State and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has launched a scathing attack on incumbent Governor Douye Diri, accusing him of surrendering the state’s political mandate to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for personal political gain.
Issuing a stern warning ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dickson declared that Diri would face severe political consequences for allegedly betraying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform that enabled his rise to power.
Dickson’s outburst comes amid deepening factional friction within the Bayelsa State PDP structure, where rival camps aligned with the former governor and the sitting governor are battling for control. The lawmaker accused Diri of engaging in anti-party activities and sacrificing the party’s historical stronghold in the Niger Delta in pursuit of his own second-term political survival and alignment with the center.
”You have surrendered Bayelsa to APC. You have sold Bayelsa to APC and you will pay for it in 2027,” Dickson asserted. “Bayelsa is PDP and PDP is Bayelsa. You cannot sell our state because of your second term ambition”.
Reiterating his role in building the political machinery that propelled Diri into the Creek Haven government house, Dickson stated that the political leadership family that backed the governor would work to reclaim the state’s political direction come 2027.
”We gave you a PDP ticket; we made you governor twice. Now you want to give Bayelsa to APC? It will not work. We will reclaim Bayelsa in 2027,” he declared, adding that Bayelsans would firmly resist any attempts to hand the state over to the APC.
The fiery statements signal an escalating political feud in Bayelsa State, reflecting broader realignments and power struggles sweeping through the opposition PDP ahead of the next national election cycle.
