Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly declared himself the field commander for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign across both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.
Wike made the high-profile announcement on Monday in Abuja during a political strategic meeting organized to rally supporters and consolidate electoral structures ahead of the upcoming presidential polls.
Addressing stakeholders, the minister emphasized that political actors must transcend party lines to ensure a unified victory for the incumbent president. He asserted that traditional political divisions between the All Politics Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should be set aside, confirming that he will directly supervise campaign field operations across both jurisdictions to deliver maximum electoral support for President Tinubu.
The declaration reinforces Wike’s firm grip on the political machinery in Rivers State, where his influence extends over key loyalists, including the faction of 27 Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers. By anchoring his political apparatus to the presidency, Wike effectively solidifies a cross-party coalition spanning the nation’s capital and his home state in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
The development highlights an aggressive early electoral strategy by the ruling political coalition as key political heavyweights begin positioning their grassroots structures well ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike concluded by assuring supporters that a coordinated platform would streamline campaign activities and guarantee electoral victory in both key territories.
