The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up its public awareness campaign against digital malpractice, releasing a formal warning detailing seven specific online offences that threaten cyber security nationwide.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, issued the warning through a security advisory, pointing out that rising instances of internet-enabled crimes demand greater caution from everyday internet users and corporate bodies alike.
According to the police high command, the restricted online violations include unauthorized access to private financial or personal accounts, online impersonation, cyberbullying, and the dissemination of malicious software. Other prohibited acts highlighted in the advisory involve digital financial fraud, identity theft, and the circulation of intentionally misleading information designed to cause public panic or financial loss.
The police emphasized that perpetrators exploiting digital networks to commit these infractions will face the full weight of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
The force reaffirmed its commitment through the National Cybercrime Centre to track down syndicates operating online and protect citizens navigating the digital space.
