Law enforcement operatives in Delta State have disrupted two major criminal operations, successfully freeing a captive woman and taking five individuals into custody for kidnapping and cult-related activities.
The breakthroughs were confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday, 4 October 2026, by the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe.
The first operation unfolded on the morning of Saturday, 3 October 2026. Acting on coordinated intelligence shared between the Ovwian-Aladja and Otu-Jeremi divisions, tactical teams raided a property in the Usiefrun community. Operatives liberated a 25-year-old woman who was being held hostage under assault. At the scene, police arrested the primary suspect, 29-year-old Brotugbare Francis Onome, and recovered a locally manufactured Beretta pistol, a magazine, and two rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate intervention on the evening of Thursday, 1 October 2026, police foiled a plot to abduct another woman in the Abraka area. Following a tip-off, officers from the Abraka Division partnered with local civilian anti-cult volunteers to intercept and arrest two suspects: Endurance Akpade, 37, and Edwin Friday Morgan, 43.
The Command stated that all five suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators as they track down remaining network affiliates.
