ABUJA — The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported a major reduction in security threats across Nigeria, revealing that attacks across all military theatres of operation dropped by 73.3 per cent in October.
According to security operational updates released by the military high command, recorded attack incidents fell sharply from 367 in September to 98 in October.
Providing a breakdown of the incidents across command theatres, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja noted that Operation Enduring Peace in the North-Central recorded the highest number of attacks in October with 29 incidents. This was followed closely by Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East with 27 incidents and Operation Fansan Yamma in the North-West with 24.
Elsewhere, Operation Whirl Stroke in the North-Central logged 12 attack incidents, while Operation Udo Ka in the South-East recorded four incidents.
Military leadership attributed the overall decline to sustained offensive operations, enhanced inter-agency intelligence sharing, and targeted strikes against terrorist enclaves.
Highlighting total operational outcomes for October, the military confirmed that troops neutralized 217 terrorists and armed bandits, arrested 333 criminal suspects, and successfully rescued 349 kidnapped victims. Additionally, 70 insurgents surrendered to frontline forces, while 105 firearms and 3,174 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
In anti-crude oil theft operations in the Niger Delta, troops under Operation Delta Safe recovered 756,837 liters of stolen crude oil and deactivated 49 illegal refining sites.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their operational resilience while cautioning against complacency. He charged military personnel to maintain strict discipline, uphold human rights, and sustain pressure against remnant criminal networks as the end-of-year festive period approaches.
