Navy Smashes Massive 40,000-Litre Illegal Oil Ring in Rivers State; 3 Arrested

The Nigerian Navy and the Federal Government Inter-Agency Task Force on Petroleum Theft have uncovered a massive 40,000-litre-capacity illegal oil refinery hidden deep within the creeks of Bonny Island, Rivers State.

Security forces tracking the operation arrested three suspects at the site. The successful raid was launched after a coordinated intelligence operation by the Joint Intelligence Monitoring Team, which brings together personnel from multiple security and intelligence agencies.

Captain Stanley Umeh, Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Bonny, briefed journalists on Friday afternoon. He revealed that this bust is the largest illegal refinery discovery his team has made since he took command of the base in March 2026.
