As political activities ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections gather significant momentum, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalized arrangements to host a major World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Engagement.
The high-level event, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC) in Abuja, officially marks the 100-day milestone leading up to the opening ballots of the 2027 General Elections.
According to a weekend brief issued by the Media Adviser and Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketolathe, the national dialogue serves as an open administrative dashboard for the electoral body to brief the country on key logistical metrics. The Commission confirmed that its Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, will spearhead the briefing. He is expected to detail the current status of the nationwide voter repository, ongoing security assessments, candidate verification portals, and active machinery being deployed to insulate the polling framework from manipulation.Beyond technical updates, the capital session functions as a crucial collaborative forum.
INEC noted that invitations have been formally extended to a vast spectrum of domestic actors—including political party leaders, security executives, accredited civil society coalitions, media directors, and international diplomatic bodies—to align operational strategies before field deployments commence.
The Commission notes that the interface underscores its commitment to deep-level institutional transparency and holistic stakeholder synergy as Nigeria head toward the first national ballot under the 2026 Electoral Act.
