The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada. Scheduled to commence operations in 2027, the new facility will cater to Nigerians residing in Canada and across the broader North American region who wish to take the exam.
The announcement was made official via JAMB’s social media channels following a high-level diplomatic visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
The visit marked a key step forward in finalizing plans for the diaspora testing venue.
According to the board, the proposed Ottawa centre is designed to streamline the university entry process for diaspora candidates seeking admission into Nigerian higher institutions.
The board says by offering local access to the UTME, JAMB aims to eliminate the financial and logistical burden of traveling to Nigeria solely for examination purposes, reiterating that the initiative aligns with JAMB’s strategic vision of globalizing Nigerian higher education and deepening ties with citizens living abroad.
Board officials emphasized that expanding exam access internationally will foster stronger educational links between diaspora communities and home institutions while showcasing Nigeria’s tertiary education system on the global stage.
