Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have taken former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator, Rochas Okorocha, into custody at a hotel in central Abuja over allegations bordering on document forgery, criminal conspiracy, and impersonation.
The arrest was effected on Monday evening, October 12, 2026, at the REIZ Continental Hotel located in the Federal Capital Territory.
Security sources revealed that the arrest followed the former lawmaker’s failure to honor official police invitations regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.
Okorocha was initially summoned to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 2, 2026. Although the meeting was shifted to September 8 at the instance of his legal team, he failed to appear before investigators, prompting judicial authorities to issue a warrant for his apprehension.
The legal trouble stems from a petition submitted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to law enforcement agencies.
According to official filings, a disputed election document surfaced on social media falsely proclaiming Okorocha as the authorized senatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo West.
INEC alerted security agencies that the document was forged and capable of triggering a breakdown of law and order, reinforcing that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the recognized candidate.
Police operatives have transferred Okorocha to headquarters for interrogation. Authorities indicated that formal charges are expected to be filed in court once preliminary documentation and debriefings are concluded.
