Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the development in an official statement issued on Friday evening, October 16, 2026, on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Zungura, confirming that the arrests followed an extensive intelligence-driven operation.
The police identified the arrested suspects as Saheed Kareem (32), Ismail Yekeen (24), Abass Afeez (32), Salako Taofeek (30), and Barrister Abdulrauf Ogunshola.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on June 21, 2026, outside a palm-wine shop along Council Road near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu, where the teenager was shot dead.
“During interrogation, all five suspects confessed to their participation in the crime,” DSP Ojelabi disclosed. “Salako Taofeek, alias ‘Fenuso’, was identified by his co-suspects as the individual who fired the fatal shot that killed the teenager.”
Ojelabi added that Taofeek named a fleeing accomplice, identified as ‘Alaagba’, as the gang’s armourer who supplied the weapon.
“The command assures the public that the investigation is being conducted impartially using forensic leads to ensure all culprits face justice,” the police spokesperson added, confirming that tracking teams are pursuing the fleeing armourer.
