IBADAN — Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have safely rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million in Ido Local Government Area, arresting the infant’s 23-year-old mother and a health facility owner involved in the crime.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in an official statement issued on Saturday morning, October 17, 2026, in Ibadan. He disclosed that police launched an immediate operation after the baby’s grandmother, Mary Amos, lodged a formal complaint on Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 PM.
According to the police, the complainant stated that her daughter, Cecilia Amos, gave birth on September 6, 2026, at Ebepraise Health Centre in Ido, but disappeared with the infant seven days later and refused to disclose her whereabouts.
Interrogation of the arrested mother revealed that the health facility owner, 40-year-old Dr. Adeleke Ebenezer, and an accomplice at large, Hassan Oludunni, orchestrated the sale to a buyer identified as Odunayo Folawewo.
“Investigations revealed that the transaction involved ₦2 million, out of which Cecilia received ₦1 million, while Dr. Ebenezer and Oludunni allegedly received ₦500,000 each,” DSP Ayanlade stated. “The command reiterates its commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons and urges the public to report suspected trafficking cases promptly.”
While the infant has been safely recovered and Dr. Ebenezer arrested, police tracking units are actively pursuing the fleeing buyer and accomplices.
