ABUJA — Taraba, Bauchi, and Adamawa states have emerged as the most affordable places to live in Nigeria, according to the latest consumer price index and inflation data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The comprehensive index, which tracks the pace of price increases across the country, highlights regions where households experience the slowest rise in the cost of goods and services. Analysts use these metrics to gauge localized purchasing power and cost-of-living trends.
Leading the national table, Taraba State recorded the lowest headline inflation rate at 1.8%, accompanied by a notable decline in food inflation, reflecting improved local agricultural output and direct farm-to-market supply chains.
Bauchi State followed closely in second place with headline inflation dropping to 2.8%, supported by aggressive state-backed agricultural initiatives and dry-season farming programs that eased pressure on household food budgets.

Economic experts note that these rankings primarily measure the rate at which prices are growing rather than absolute cheapness. States recording lower inflation percentages indicate that consumer goods and basic foodstuffs have faced milder price shocks compared to the national average.
Robust local food production, localized agricultural subsidies, and improved security corridors in parts of the northern regions have been credited as major drivers keeping living costs relatively subdued in these states.
