MAKURDI — Renowned scholar and Professor of Economic History and Strategic Studies, Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu, has officially rejected his appointment to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council.
The university don, who lectures at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University in Makurdi, Benue State, announced his decision in a signed statement on Monday, disavowing a list currently circulating on social media that names him as a member of the party’s campaign caucus.
Prof. Ochefu clarified that he is not a registered member of the NDC and was neither consulted nor gave prior consent before his name was added to the campaign team structure.
To rectify the situation, the academic revealed that he has formally written to the leadership and chairman of the NDC campaign council to decline the role, demanding the immediate removal of his name and the publication of an amended membership roster.
Emphasizing the need to uphold professional ethics, Ochefu noted that his academic standing and institutional responsibilities require him to maintain absolute neutrality in partisan politics. He thanked members of the public who reached out for clarification and advised citizens to disregard any claims linking him to the political organization.
