YENAGOA, Nigeria — The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has called on tricycle operators across the state to conspicuously display their approved Ministry of Transport (MOT) identification numbers on their commercial vehicles.
The directive was issued on Saturday during a strategic stakeholder engagement meeting at the Command Headquarters in Yenagoa with the leadership of the Keke Napep Riders Association in Bayelsa State.
According to police authorities, the measure is designed to distinguish registered, legitimate commercial operators from criminal elements who use unmarked tricycles to perpetrate criminal activities, including armed robbery and phone snatching.
CP Adewale emphasized that close collaboration between public transport unions and law enforcement remains crucial to enhancing intelligence gathering and curbing urban crime across the state capital and surrounding communities.
”The display of the approved Ministry of Transport identification numbers will help distinguish genuine operators from criminals who infiltrate the sector to commit illegal acts,” the police chief stated.
Responing during the meeting, the leadership of the commercial tricyclists expressed their commitment to full compliance, assuring the police command of their readiness to partner with security agencies to maintain peace and safety in Bayelsa State.
