Iduoriyekemwen Condemns Attack On Comedian Porkupyne, Warns Against Political Intimidation In Edo

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Candidate for Edo South, Hon. Matthew Aigbuhuenze Iduoriyekemwen, has strongly condemned the reported violent attack on popular Edo comedian, Osagie Idedia, widely known as Porkupyne (MC Porcupine), and his friends during a social gathering in Benin City.

Describing reports of physical assault, harassment, and property destruction surrounding the incident as deeply concerning, Iduoriyekemwen called on the security agencies to ensure the perpetrators face justice without political interference.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Edo South Senatorial candidate stressed that violence and intimidation against citizens, regardless of their political leanings, have no place in a democratic society.

”Every Nigerian has the constitutional right to freedom of association, expression, and political participation without fear of harassment, persecution, or physical attacks,” Iduoriyekemwen stated.

He called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting citizens by ensuring the incident gets urgent state attention. He also urged the Edo State Commissioner of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security outfits to carry out a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation.

Cautioning the leadership and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Iduoriyekemwen warned against political intimidation aimed at silencing opposition voices as political activities build momentum.

”Edo State belongs to all of us, not to any single political party,” he noted. “As we approach the 2027 general elections, political leaders across party lines must demonstrate maturity, restraint, and respect for the rule of law. Elections should be contests of ideas, competence, character, and public trust—not opportunities to intimidate or silence perceived political opponents.”

Expressing solidarity with the victim and those affected, Iduoriyekemwen reiterated that the people of Edo State deserve peace, security, and the freedom to participate in the democratic process without fear.
