The National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has passed away at the age of 100.
The demise of the revered elder statesman was officially announced on Tuesday in Akure by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, through a personally signed statement on behalf of the state government.
Aiyedatiwa described the late Afenifere patriarch as a beacon of wisdom, integrity, and selfless service whose century-long life was dedicated to the advancement of Ondo State, Yorubaland, and the Nigerian nation.
Born on May 11, 1926, in Akure, Fasoranti was a prominent educator, political administrator, and chieftain of the Yoruba socio-political movement. He served as a key lieutenant to former Western Region Premier Chief Obafemi Awolowo and later served as Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State during the Second Republic administration of Governor Michael Ajasin.
The governor expressed deep condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Akure Kingdom, and the people of Ondo State, noting that Fasoranti’s fatherly guidance and principled stance on justice, democracy, and good governance would be greatly missed.
