Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to the Udenu Division, supported by local Neighbourhood Watch Group personnel, have arrested a 28-year-old suspect, Michael Ayisa, for allegedly robbing a Point-of-Sale operator of ₦200,000 at gunpoint.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday in Enugu. He disclosed that law enforcement officers tracked down and apprehended the suspect on October 18, 2026, at Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, the operation followed a distress report alleging that Ayisa attacked the female POS operator at her business premises along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor. Preliminary findings revealed that the victim raised an alarm as the fleeing suspect threatened to shoot bystanders who attempted to give chase.
”A Beretta-like pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from him, while the suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation,” Ndukwe stated. He added that the suspect will be formally arraigned in court as soon as ongoing investigations are finalized.
Commending the tactical team and the community security group for the swift operation, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements, urging members of the public to maintain vigilance and report suspicious activities to nearby security formations.
