The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced that 66 personnel across formations nationwide have faced disciplinary sanctions for various offences, ranging from dismissals and compulsory retirement to demotions and official warnings.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this on Friday during an interview with journalists in Abuja. Audi explained that the disciplinary measures were approved by the Civil Defence, Correction, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) following thorough investigations into allegations of misconduct.
The NSCDC boss noted that the penalties were administered according to the nature and severity of each infraction. He specifically highlighted that some personnel were implicated in arms dealing, stressing that officers guilty of grave offences will face full prosecution.
“Some of them are to face prosecution while some had been dismissed after facing prosecution. They will be prosecuted because of the veracity of the offence, level and kind of offence they have committed,” Audi stated.
He added that all impacted personnel went through due administrative process, including orderly room trials and staff disciplinary committees, prior to the board’s approval. The sanctioned officers were drawn from various operational tiers, including State, Zonal, and Area Commands, as well as the National Headquarters.
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward professional misconduct, Audi stated that the enforcement action is designed to strengthen internal discipline and serve as a strong deterrent to others.
In a related development, the Commandant General revealed that approximately 17,000 NSCDC personnel have recently been promoted, calling the development a major morale booster for deserving officers. Out of roughly 22,000 personnel who sat for the promotional examinations, about 17,000 met the criteria based on performance and available Federal Government-approved vacancies. Audi confirmed that the promotion results are finalized and will be posted on corps notice boards for verification.
